“As a therapist who primarily works with teens, I often see families struggling to set or reestablish boundaries for screen use. Dr. Harrison's book provides a thoughtful plan to help families achieve a balanced approach to screens—incorporating responsibilities, household duties, family time, fun, relaxation, safety, and connection. Her metaphor of “Screentime as Dessert” is spot-on, illustrating that while devices are enjoyable and worthy of use, they should be reserved for AFTER the day’s priorities are completed.

While this book offers practical information for parents of children of all ages, it is especially perfect for those considering entrusting their child or teen with a smart device for the first time. The appendix and printable PDFs are particularly useful! I’ve already begun incorporating them into my work with families, as I believe they’re incredibly helpful for those looking to make immediate changes. They are especially beneficial for first-time parents who aren’t sure where to start, or for parents feeling stuck, such as those with older teens or young adults who have been in a pattern of internet overuse for a long time.

Dr. Harrison has packed this book with effective, easy-to-implement strategies for any age and stage's relationship with technology. I’m eager to continue using these ideas with the families I work with and in my own family. If you’re a parent or professional seeking practical solutions to screen time challenges, this book is an excellent resource."
